Ginney Deavoll is an artist, author, and adventurer, though she has recently questioned the latter label. As an artist and author, she has published books and articles, frequently writing about her paintings. Her adventurous spirit was initially defined by significant expeditions, including a self-propelled journey of New Zealand's South Island with her husband, comprising a 1000km sea kayak around Fiordland and a 500km bike ride up the west coast, followed by tramping to Farewell Spit. Her adventures included paddling around Great Barrier Island, travelling from Croatia to Albania, and skiing across the European Alps.
Her life's mission to explore New Zealand's wildest places and share their beauty through art and writing has transformed since becoming a mother of two sons, with a husband, dog, and property to manage. Through her children's perspectives, she has discovered a new form of adventure in exploring local environments, with their enthusiasm for discovering plants, rockpools, and tracks near home influencing her artistic focus. Her workspace has evolved similarly, coming full circle from painting in a crowded flat to having a professional studio, and now working at her kitchen table surrounded by her children's activities, where she embraces creating art amidst the bustle of family life.
