Heather Wilson

Heather had such a happy carefree kiwi childhood and she finds a lot of her inspiration for her works is drawn from those memories. Her art also explores aspects of iconic New Zealand scenery and symbolism connected with her beloved geometric patterns from the 1970s. Her work is contemporary. She would describe it as an explosion of bold strong colour and texture, which is her distinctive trademark. She uses acrylic and mixed media on canvas and board with resin effects.
 
Many people are interested to find out she has a double degree in Nutrition and Food Science from Otago University. After several years in the corporate world she decided to escape the daily grind and follow her dreams and Heather is now a full-time professional artist. She's been living in beautiful Hawkes Bay for 10 years after growing up in Lower Hutt, Wellington.  She is inspired by growing up in the late 60’s and 70’s. Her work often has a retro vibe. Heather is also inspired by Gio-Ponti, Bisazza tiles, Yayoi Ku-Sama, Comme des Garcons,  Andy Wahol and Piet (Mondrian). She regularly participates in national exhibitions and has her work in a number of galleries throughout New Zealand.
